Responsibilities

The Patient Advocate serves as the primary point of contact for the identification, management, and resolution of assigned complaints, grievances, and requests communicated by and/or on behalf of the populations served by Sheppard Pratt
The Patient Advocate engages with the patient/patient representative to assure protection of patient rights, facilitate communication between patients and staff, educate patients (or secure appropriate resources to do so) on the topic of their concern so that matters are resolved in a timely manner in accordance with regulatory requirements

Required

Work requires comprehensive knowledge of health care administration and its governing laws and effective oral and written communication skills - acquired through a Bachelor's degree in clinical psychology, counseling, nursing, or related health services field of study
Work requires 3 years of hospital experience in order to gain comprehensive knowledge of clinical documentation requirements
Knowledge of the law regulations pertaining to patients' rights
General knowledge in the requirements and review processes of TJC, CMS, and state regulatory agencies
Demonstrated experience in researching and preparing for audits/reviews

Preferred

Master's degree preferred
Broad knowledge of treatment of psychiatric populations preferred
Experience in healthcare advocacy and/or clinical role is preferred
