Responsibilities
Participating in highly complex, technically specialized tasks involved in screening slides of clinical specimens for evidence of cancer or other pathological conditions
Documenting findings and activities according to departmental terminology and protocols including; marking abnormalities, rendering diagnoses and determining cases for quality control or subsequent review by a pathologist
Performing routine quality control, participating in cellular evaluations for specimen adequacy, providing procedural support and performing specimen processing as needed
Assisting with the technical oversight and direction of routine cytology processing procedures in order to ensure high quality, diagnostic throughput in the department
Qualification
Required
Bachelor Degree with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited cytology program
One year of Laboratory experience
CT (ASCP)
Technical expertise necessary in order to interpret tests, recognize abnormal test results, validate and optimize new testing platforms, synthesize complex technical procedures and troubleshoot technical or equipment issues
Analytical skills necessary to interpret and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, and to evaluate suitability of slides and stains produced
Ability to work on several projects at one time with good organizational skills, judgment and technical skills
Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with patients and other health care professionals
High level of professionalism and skillful performance in stressful situations
Preferred
Three years of full time experience as a certified CT in a Cytology Laboratory
