Senior Beamline Physicist/Engineer

Niowave, Inc. is dedicated to developing medical isotopes for cancer treatment and eradication. They are seeking a Senior Beamline Physicist/Engineer who will be responsible for maintaining and improving superconducting accelerator systems, as well as training operations team members in the use of high-power electron beamlines.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and assess the performance of electron beam lines, including vacuum systems, beamline magnets, and both intercepting and non-intercepting electron beam diagnostics
Interface with controls engineers to automate control of beamline elements and read back data from diagnostics into the controls system
Interface with nuclear engineers concerning the design and operation of the x-ray conversion target
Perform troubleshooting and maintenance activities on vacuum systems
Be part of the team designing the concept, architecture, and components of future systems
Train operations staff in the operation of high-power electron beamlines and diagnostics
Conduct optimization work on existing systems, perform measurements and validation tests
Confirm system capabilities by designing testing methods

Required

Bachelor's degree in the fields of accelerator physics, electrical or mechanical engineering, etc. (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience with accelerators in a research or production environment
Broad understanding of accelerator beamline technology
Regularly engages in mentoring multiple team members in beamline physics and the associated systems
Expert level analytical and problem-solving skills; Organizational and project management skills for self and teams

Understand how to integrate into a new team/organization – appreciate the history of current state, know how and when to make suggestions, as well as using just the right pace to reach the improved future state
Understand their own communication and learning styles, can assess others' styles, and is able to find the right path to connect the two

Preferred

Master's or Doctorate degree in the fields of accelerator physics, electrical or mechanical engineering, etc. (or equivalent experience)
8+ years of power electronics related experience
5+ or more years of experience with power electronics and accelerators in a research or production environment
Experience leading teams to complete large projects
2+ years' experience of direct supervisory experience of five or more people
