Staff Structural Engineer - Transmission & Distribution (Wallingford, CT)
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to work on transmission and distribution projects for various clients in both public and private sectors. The role involves creating structural designs, modifying production drawings, and providing leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers throughout the design and construction process.

Responsibilities
Perform structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion
Modify and review production drawings for a variety of transmission and distribution projects
Design structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers
Applies strong knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry
Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers
Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software
Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the structural engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers
Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence
Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies
All other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
Or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience
3 years of structural engineering experience, consulting preferred
Successful completion (i.e.passing) FE or EIT required
Plans to obtain Professional Engineering License (PE) when eligible per State requirements
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures
Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D), AutoCAD, Mathcad
Microstation a plus
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
