The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services is seeking a Boiler Inspector. This role involves conducting inspections of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure compliance with state regulations and safety standards, while also collaborating with other departments to address boiler-related concerns.

Responsibilities
Conduct detailed inspections of boilers and pressure vessels to ensure compliance with state regulations and safety standards
Identify potential risks and flaws in boiler systems and provide actionable recommendations to address these issues
Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, findings, and any corrective actions taken
Collaborate with other state departments and collaborators to ensure seamless communication and effective resolution of any boiler-related concerns
Provide expert advice and mentorship on boiler maintenance and safety practices to facility managers and other relevant personnel
Take part in training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with industry standards
Performs internal and external inspections of boilers
Witnesses hydrostatic tests on boilers
Examines piping systems
Inspects for presence of cracked, burned or bagged tubes
Examines boiler accessories
Inspects repairs and replacements of steam boilers
Consults with boiler repairers and approves type of repairs to be made
Writes reports and recommends abatements
Testifies at hearings and in court
May collect overdue fees for boiler operating certificates
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Five (5) years of experience in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of steam boilers
Knowledge of methods and procedures used in manufacture and operation of all types of riveted and welded steam boilers
Knowledge of relevant state laws, statutes, regulations and American Society of Mechanical Engineers codes
Knowledge of inspection methods and techniques
Skills in interpersonal skills
Skills in oral and written communication skills
Ability to compute allowable pressure and strength requirements using standard formulas
Ability to read technical drawings, designs and specifications
Ability to utilize computer software
Incumbents in this class must possess at time of appointment and maintain during employment a National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors or a current Connecticut license in one of the following categories: S-1, S-2, S-3, or S-4
Incumbents in this class may be required to travel
Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license
Preferred
Experience performing boiler inspections on behalf of an insurance company
Experience with the Jurisdiction Online inspection software or other boiler inspection software
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications or software including Outlook and Word
