Research Scientist III
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is seeking a Research Scientist III to develop and supervise research projects in military medicine. The role involves investigating scientific principles, developing new technologies, and providing support for various research objectives at the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio.

Responsibilities
Provides expertise in development and conduction of protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspect of military medicine, including, but not limited to: trauma, hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, directed energy health effects, and craniofacial health and trauma
Provides supervision and guidance to junior scientist contract personnel in writing Government approved, protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human use protocols, technical reports, final reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts
Provides guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on the evaluation of data, development of presentation materials, and writing of Government approved SOPs for research under contract, and presenting findings at technical and professional meetings
Provides supervision for contract personnel during the preparation of experimental subjects and aid in the training and the development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols
Provides support in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis
Oversees contract personnel associated with research projects; manages research data
Performs surgical procedures on animal models for both survival and non-survival
Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations
Qualification
Required
Doctoral Degree required
Minimum of 7 years experience required
Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques
Excellent communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
Ability to work independently and supervise others
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance, including background check and drug screening
All staff required to enter the labs shall maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent
Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs
Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
