Electrical Engineer - Substation (Brea)

Responsibilities
Create/modify single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, communication diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and relay panel arrangements for the installation of new, or modifications to existing, substations
Perform calculations such as DC battery sizing, AC load sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, and control cable sizing
Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other related high-voltage materials
Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and P&C design to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems
Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings
Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews
Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems
Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager and others as needed
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members
All other duties as assigned
Prepare/create general arrangements, sections and electrical details, yard layouts, and bill of materials for the installation of new, or modifications to existing, substations
Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other related high-voltage materials
Perform calculations such as lightning protection, grounding analysis, and lighting plans
Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to P&C, civil, structural, and transmission line engineers
Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings
Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews
Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems
Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager and others as needed
Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members
All other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of electrical engineering experience
Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of electrical engineering experience
A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience
Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, including understanding of three-phase power systems
Knowledge of basic protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment
Familiarity with microprocessor-based protection and control systems with the ability to understand one-lines and control schematics
Substation physical layout, electrical clearances, rigid and strain bus design, ground grid design, surge and direct stroke protection, and raceway design
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D and 3D rendering programs and other analysis programs
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills
