Research Scientist

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is seeking a Research Scientist to develop and supervise research projects in clinical TBI. The role involves overseeing laboratory research, preparing reports, and collaborating with other professionals to advance the understanding and treatment of traumatic brain injuries.

Responsibilities

Must have clinical TBI research experience
Plans, executes, and oversees laboratory research. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols
Monitors scientific literature. Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and prepares patent applications
Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications
Processes and interprets experimental data
Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards
Collaborates with other technical and professional staff. Trains and supervises technical staff. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role
Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations

Required

Doctoral Degree required. Ph.D., MD or MD/PhD or terminal doctorate degree in related scientific discipline preferred. May consider a Master's level degree with at least 10 years of clinical TBI research experience
Must complete CITI/ HIPAA training
Minimum Experience: 2-3 years of clinical research experience required
Must have clinical TBI research experience
Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a supervisory capacity depending on local leadership needs
Excellent collaborative skills required
Ability to effectively produce data for and author professional, peer reviewed journal articles, manuscripts, research grant applications, posters and research reports required
The incumbent must be able to work comfortably with computer software, including Microsoft Office and relevant statistical tools
Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance, including background check and drug screening
Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs
Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Preferred

Ph.D., MD or MD/PhD or terminal doctorate degree in related scientific discipline preferred
Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care with neurological disorders and TBI clinical research experience strongly preferred
