Lead CT Technologist

The Lead CT Technologist performs a variety of imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety and quality imaging while collaborating with the Radiologist and participating in continuous quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities
Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients
Determines the most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly
Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures
Works under the direction of the Radiologist at all times
Takes x-ray, CT call according to monthly schedule after the closing of regular department hours
Competent in the use of CR and PACS
Assesses, evaluates and informs physician of changes in patient’s condition during an exam
Completes all work before leaving including checking with the nurses’ stations, ER, Surgery, holding, etc
Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed
Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc
Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed exam; documents any deviations
Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams
Interacts professionally with patient/family
Ascertains patient understanding of process and informed consent
Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction
Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population
Must be acquainted with local fire and safety regulations
Has knowledge of hospital policies and functions of other departments
Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers in an age appropriate manner
Appropriately assesses the patient’s pain and involves the patient in effective management of the pain using age appropriate interventions
Completes annual educational requirements
Maintains regulatory requirements
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time
Consistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels
Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly
Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion
Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled
Attends required staff meetings
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities
Basic computer knowledge
Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
A high level of cross-sectional anatomy
Proficiency with most major CT equipment manufacturers’ hardware and software
Qualification
Required
Graduate of a 2 year JRCERT program in Radiologic Technology
Current Louisiana State Licensure
Current ARRT Licensure in Diagnostic Radiology
Specific training and experience in CT required
CPR for Healthcare Providers to be completed within 30 days of hire
Preferred
Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred
