AIRCRAFT ORDANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC

USAJOBS is seeking an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) within the Department of the Air Force. The role involves testing, troubleshooting, inspecting, modifying, and repairing egress/jettison systems used on assigned aircraft while also instructing team members and leading operational tests.

Responsibilities

Accomplishes scheduled inspections of egress systems. Using prescribed job guides and technical data which may require interpretation and or adaptation
Troubleshoots egress and jettison systems on operational aircraft and aircraft undergoing repair, overhaul, and modification
Performs operational (or simulated operational) tests of egress and canopy jettison systems to ensure proper operation of all components using canopy blow testers, specialized test gauges, and push/pull spring scales
Complies with safety requirements and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Maintains awareness of flight line and shop safety procedures and identifies unsafe practices and/or procedures to the crew chief or supervisor
Controls tools. Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Cleans work area and equipment. Maintains an organized work area and practices good housekeeping. Accomplishes daily cleanup of work area at designated times

Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance as a condition of employment
This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing
Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
Employee must maintain current certifications
Must be a current member of the AF Reserve or willing/qualified to join

Knowledge of a variety of technical data such as manufacturers handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related thereto
Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods, and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them
Knowledge of shop mathematics
Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time, and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements
Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints
Ability to use special and standard test equipment, gauges, and hand tools
Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures
Ability to maintain good memory skills, good judgment, and ingenuity
Skill in mental application required to plan and lay out work, to maintain alertness and concentration, or to maintain a certain degree of muscular and visual coordination
Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles associated with egress and jettison systems
Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders
Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security
Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures
Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work
