Communications Specialist II – Graphic Designer

Responsibilities
Lead concept development and design for city-wide campaigns, initiatives, and publications
Produce polished, high-quality visual content including brochures, signage, social graphics, infographics, reports, presentations, and event materials
Maintain visual consistency and brand standards across all platforms and departments
Serve as the department’s lead on visual identity, typography, layout, and color usage
Translate complex information into accessible, visually engaging formats
Provide creative direction and design support for major city events, policy communications, and public outreach
Oversee production timelines and coordinate with vendors for print and promotional materials
Manage design assets and maintain an organized archive of templates, imagery, and branded elements
Mentor junior staff or interns, as needed, in design best practices and brand adherence
Contribute to departmental strategy through visual storytelling and user-focused design solutions
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Bridge)
Knowledge of principles of print and digital publication design
Knowledge of web graphics and online presentation techniques
Knowledge of public relations collateral and advertising layout
Knowledge of print production workflows and vendor evaluation practices
Knowledge of photography and visual storytelling principles
Knowledge of public information and journalism practices
Knowledge of municipal and multi-service organization communication strategies
Skill in graphic design and layout for print and digital media
Skill in taking and editing photographs
Skill in using design software and desktop publishing tools
Skill in preparing and delivering print-ready materials
Skill in managing design projects and deadlines
Ability to create professional graphics aligned with citywide branding and communication goals
Ability to operate digital cameras, scanners, and related equipment
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects independently
Ability to communicate clearly through visual, written, and verbal presentations
Ability to evaluate vendor proposals and prepare project specifications
Ability to edit content for accuracy, grammar, and clarity
Ability to stay current with design software and industry trends
Ability to promote the City's image through strategic visual storytelling
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and team members
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and five years directly related experience based upon assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Ohio driver's license
