Responsibilities

As an Aerospace Engineering Technician, performs basic, progressively more difficult assignments under the close direction of a supervisor, team leader, on-the job training instructor, or a more experienced employee
Applies basic technical knowledge applicable to learning the various aspects in direct support of the NAS to assist more experience employees
Assists with various projects, gathering technical data, evaluating/formulating safety procedures and material requirements for assigned projects
Assists more experienced employees with analyzing, trouble-shooting electronic, electrical, mechanical systems and components on aircraft
As training progresses, receives instruction in troubleshooting and analyzing aircraft mechanical and electrical discrepancies on various agency aircraft models and performing aircraft modification functions which involves technical work on mechanical, electronic, and/or avionics components
Develops a good working knowledge of FAA policies and procedures pertaining to (i.e. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), facility, system, and equipment security, and 14 CFR 5 Safety Management System (SMS), 14 CFR 135 Air Carrier and Operator Certification, 14 CFR Repair Station and 14 CFR 121 Air Carrier Certification.)
Applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments associated with various general and specialized trade skills, such as cleaning the interior and exterior of the aircraft to include preparing cleaning products, discharging waste, performing cleaning by hand or tolls, and disinfecting restroom
Takes special precautions while operating equipment for following all safety rules and regulations, including wearing and using proper safety gear
May be required to travel, working rotating shifts to include nights, days, and/or weekends, and work in other components of the organization or geographic locations
Performs other duties as assigned
Uses state of the art computerized diagnostic equipment and specialized test equipment to analyze and resolve performance discrepancies on Flight Program Operations aircraft and flight inspection platforms in direct support of the National Airspace System (NAS)
Troubleshoots and analyzes aircraft mechanical and electrical discrepancies on various agency aircraft models to include e.g. (Beechcraft King Air series e.g. 90, 200, 300), Bombardier CL-600 series, or Learjet 60
Performs aircraft modification functions which involves technical work on mechanical, electronic, and/or avionics components
Duties require knowledge of: the principles of aerodynamic properties, aircraft mechanical systems, electricity and electrical circuits; troubleshooting aircraft systems, special tools and mechanical equipment; and characteristics of corrosion treatment and protection of aircraft surfaces
This position requires a valid FAA Aircraft & Powerplant Certificate (A&P)
Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge of the applicable discipline at the full performance level as well as applicable procedures and policies
Prepares technical documentation in accordance with regulations to ensure compliance with Flight Program Operations maintenance program and agency policy
Utilizes technical expertise in accordance with federal certification standards to determine the airworthiness of aircraft of specialized aviation platforms; performs research of technical data, regulations, and directives for use, evaluation, and resolution and specific functional problems
Participates in meetings and work groups with specialists of diversified technical knowledge and management up to and including team level
Provides technical advice and training to flight crews regarding discrepancies in flight characteristics and system malfunctions

TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-F LEVEL, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG/GS-4 level
Specialized experience may include but is not limited to analysis, modification, repair, and testing of complex types of mechanical components and equipment
Knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering technician work, i.e., maintaining and using a variety of test equipment; and/or interpreting diagrams
OR 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics gained from an accredited college or university
OR Combination education and experience may be qualifying for this position
TO QUALIFY AT THE FV-G LEVEL, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-F level
Specialized experience may include but is not limited to troubleshooting and analyzing aircraft problems; utilizing diagnostic equipment to resolve performance discrepancies and determining airworthiness of highly modified aviation platforms
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Applicant must possess a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate (A&P)
