PRESS SECRETARY
Dauphin County Commissioners' Office is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Press Secretary. The role involves managing public information and media relations for the county, serving as a spokesperson, and executing proactive media outreach and communications.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Works closely with departments and civic organizations to plan news releases and news conferences, especially for awards, program innovations, grant awards, service changes, achievements and milestones
Researches, writes, edits and disseminates all county news releases and media advisories
Plans and executes all news conferences, including visual and talking points
Researches and writes opinion pieces and letters to the editor
Prepares proclamations and certificates for anniversaries, birthdays, Eagle Scout and Gold Awards, employee accomplishments, community causes and events, championship teams and other milestones
Prepares speeches for Commissioners’ public appearances
Assists in maintaining content on website
Serves as Public Information Officer for the Emergency Management Agency
Assists in preparing other publications, including brochures, a Dauphin County promotional book, a county map, economic reports, department newsletters and community calendars, as needed
Responds personally to media inquiries or refers calls to appropriate individuals
Prepares letters and emails in response to constituent inquiries
Takes photographs and disseminates for public education and awareness purposes
Researches public issues and interests and coordinates special projects as needed
Develops and carries out a comprehensive media strategy to enhance public understanding, county visibility and community image
Coordinates special events
Interacts with internal government offices, external agencies and the general public
Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
Two to three years' experience in public relations and media relations
Experience in government also helpful
