Transmission Engineer - Overhead Transmission (Boston, Wallingford, Portland)
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Transmission Engineer to work on overhead high voltage transmission line projects. The role involves leading the design process, preparing specifications, construction drawings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while providing guidance to less experienced staff members.

Responsibilities
Perform and lead transmission design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. This includes PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis to develop load trees, developing design criteria, sag-tension calculations, wire blowout, swing angle, damper recommendations, structure spotting, clearance reports, wire selection, etc
Prepare specifications for construction, hardware, and material for high voltage overhead transmission line (HV OH T-Line); structure design and development; hardware design and selection; and field installation supervision
Prepare construction drawings and cost estimates for high & extra high voltage overhead transmission lines
Compile calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC, GO 95 or other applicable codes and resources
Prepare communications of the interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC and regional requirements and standards
Possesses strong knowledge of commonly used transmission engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry
Additional responsibilities include providing instruction and guidance to less experienced staff members. This position may develop into a leadership role at which point this individual will be expected to lead teams of engineers as well as be a primary interface between Burns & McDonnell Engineers and our clients
Experience as the technical lead on projects and performing quality reviews is a plus
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred
Bachelor's degree in civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred
Master's degree in civil engineering and 2 years of transmission engineering experience, consulting preferred
Strong knowledge of commonly used transmission engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry
Proficient knowledge in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures
Working level knowledge and proficiency in utilizing Design software and tools including but not limited to Bentley Power Line system based programs (i.e., PLS-CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, PLS-LITE), SAG 10, L-PILE, or AUTO CAD
Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including NESC, GO95 ASCE 74, ASCE 48-11, or ASCE 10-97
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
Demonstrate attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Experience as the technical lead on projects and performing quality reviews is a plus
Ability/experience performing quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications is a plus
