Session Physician

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) is a leading provider, educator, and advocate of sexual and reproductive health care in New York State. They are seeking a Session Physician to perform medical and surgical abortion procedures, provide gynecologic care, and offer clinical consultation to staff during clinic hours.

Responsibilities

Provides medical care which may include medication abortion provision, LARC placement and removal, contraceptive counseling and provision, STI counseling and treatment, colposcopy and/or LEEP provision (depending on prior experience), and surgical abortion services (to 19+6 weeks’ gestation) in compliance with PPGNY’s Medical Standards and Guidelines
Provides clinical consultation to advance practice physicians
Participates in Center chart audit procedures and reviews laboratory and diagnostic reports as appropriate
Reports to the Regional Associate Medical Director on all medical complications and other matters as needed
Participates in PPGNY’s quality management activities, including Debriefings and Root Cause Analyses, as required
Ensures compliance with PPGNY’s and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines
Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA

Required

Requires successful completion of coursework culminating in certification either as Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and active status for certification by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the American Board of Family Medicine
Must be licensed to practice in New York State
Minimum of 2-3 years' experience with surgical abortion provision
Expertise in sexual and reproductive health care is required
Requires basic computer/EMR proficiency
Current NYS Physician License and Registration
Nexplanon certification
Current ACLS certification
Ability to remain focused and calm in stressful situations
Superior oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other members of the health care team
Willingness to function as a role model
Proficiency with surgical abortion, LARC placement and removal and related skills
Comfort with electronic health records
Strong knowledge of Abortion care and evaluation
Thorough knowledge of surgical complications
Must be able to work in a busy clinical environment
Demonstrated ability to manage health-related emergency conditions including independent decision making
Ability to exercise discretion in the handling of confidential information
Ability to demonstrate and document evidence-based clinical judgment
A demonstrated commitment to PPGNY's mission related to bodily autonomy, health equity, and gender and racial justice
Demonstrated commitment to learning about and enhancing practices related to racial equity and its impact on healthcare systems
