Substation Protection and Controls Engineer
Patterson & Dewar Engineers is seeking a Substation Protection and Controls Engineer to join their engineering team in Atlanta. The role involves designing control systems for electrical substations and ensuring compliance with industry standards while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities
Protection & Control designs for electrical substations, both new construction and upgrades/retrofits
Prepare and review documents and drawings. These include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection and control schematic development, wiring diagrams, panel elevations, SCADA, communications, AC & DC diagrams & calculations, equipment specifications and Bill of Materials
Preparing bid, construction, and as-built documents
Perform job cost estimates
Develop proposals (scope of work, estimate, etc.)
Field visits including pre-engineering, pre-construction and post-construction inspections
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (i.e. NEC, NESC, IEEE)
Develop proficiency with the applications and tools necessary to complete projects requested by clients
Lead QA/QC process and sign off on engineering documents
Stay informed of client, industry, and company news and developments
Learn and remain aware of the services and skills offered by all departments within the company
Align company capabilities with the needs of existing and potential clients; find opportunities to offer additional relevant services
Qualification
Required
A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
5+ years of experience in substation protection & controls design
5+ years of experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
Registered Professional Engineer
Proficiency with Microsoft® Office
Ability to communicate effectively and honestly, both written and verbal, to clients and colleagues
The ability and willingness to travel approximately 15% annually
The ability and willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlines

Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
Strong organizational skills

Preferred
5+ years of engineering experience working with Southern Company Services
