The role involves planning, designing, and analyzing structural components and systems for various structures, utilizing computer-aided design software to achieve design goals.
Consulting
Responsibilities
Perform engineering analysis on residential, commercial, and municipal structures
Prepare and check structural design calculations, computer models, and plans
Use computer software to draft framing plans, foundation plans and details
Use relevant software to aid with project analysis
Design structures utilizing steel, timber and reinforced concrete design
Consider the strength of construction materials and choose which to use appropriately
Perform load tracking on structures
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers and architects to develop coordinated designs
Prepare reports, letters, and plans for clients
Attend project meetings
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualification
Required
Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software in a timely manner
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent knowledge of current code requirements
Experience with AutoCAD
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to gather, analyze and understand geological data
Understanding of construction means and methods
Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate and work well with a team
B.S in Civil Engineering or related engineering field
EI designation or ability to obtain it within 6 months for employees who have a qualifying engineering discipline degree
0-5 years of relative engineering experience
Preferred
At least 3 months of experience in an Engineering Field Technician, Engineering Design, and/or Construction position
