Computational Materials Engineer

Responsibilities

Provides practical support solutions to technical engineering problems to optimize materials performance through analysis and simulation
Documents findings and communicates reports and technical presentations at engineering meetings, and participates in program reviews
Supports future NTM engineering needs and the modifications required to provide next generation materials for aerospace and nuclear environments
Assume technical and engineering responsibility for segments or key portions of contracts
Provide technical communication within the company management and may represent the Company as a technical contact to customers
Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information
Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

Required

Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education
Must possess general knowledge of thermo-mechanical materials modeling approaches, with knowledge in ceramics or composites desirable
Experience in finite element analysis using ANSYS, ABAQUS, or similar programs
Understanding of material behavior theories, including damage accumulation/failure models and how they may fit in a multiscale modeling framework
Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems
Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills
The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required

Preferred

Experience with the use of machine learning algorithms as applied to materials engineering is desirable
