Responsibilities

Supervises and coordinates the preparation of budgets for Facilities
Oversee the maintenance and repair of campus buildings, grounds, and infrastructure, prioritizing aging systems and infrastructure needs
Manage preventative maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and extend asset lifespans
Ensure all facilities operate efficiently, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems and all other trades
Directs the maintenance and repair of all infrastructure and buildings and structures, including painting, carpentry, roofing, electrical work, plumbing, steam fitting, ventilation, refrigeration controls, fire and life safety systems, masonry, walls and floors and any equipment related to same
Plan, coordinate, and oversee capital improvement projects and major renovations, including budget management and adherence to timelines
Collaborate with stakeholders to define project goals, monitor progress, and ensure quality outcomes
Liaise with state agencies like the Department of Capital Asset Maintenance and Management (DCAMM) and contractors to ensure compliance with Massachusetts building codes and regulations
Effectively manage AFSCME unionized staff, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and fostering positive labor relations
Supervise and support a diverse team, including custodial, maintenance, and administrative personnel, promoting professional development and accountability
Maintain compliance with Commonwealth of Massachusetts building codes, environmental laws, and safety standards
Working with other departments on campus develop and implement emergency response plans related to facilities, including disaster recovery protocols
Develop and oversee facilities budgets, including operational, utilities, and capital project expenditures
Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend strategies to optimize resource allocation
Contribute to long-term campus planning efforts, with a focus on modernizing and improving infrastructure
Participates in a variety of interdepartmental working groups addressing both capital and long-range planning, projects and issues on campus
Lead efforts to enhance campus sustainability through energy conservation, waste reduction, and environmentally responsible construction practices
Monitor and improve energy management systems and utilities usage
Negotiate and oversee contracts with external vendors and service providers, ensuring adherence to institutional standards
Monitor project performance, resolving issues to maintain project schedules and budgets

Required

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in similar capacity
Ability to plan, organize, direct and coordinate multi trade projects
Demonstrated knowledge of physical plant operation and maintenance, management skills required
Experience in supervising unionized staff, preferably in an academic environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, superiors, associates and the public
Ability to manage, supervise and coordinate the work of architects, engineers and contractors
Skill in writing clear and concise reports

Preferred

Certifications such as LEED are highly desirable
Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a construction supervisor
Experience with computer energy management systems, facilities management systems, spreadsheets, work order systems, and other related software systems
Experience working in public higher education or state-funded institutions
