Scientist/Engineer – Retinal Prosthesis & Vision Restoration (Ex-vivo and rodent neuromodulation, electrophysiology, behavior)
Cahira Technologies Inc is an MIT spinoff company focused on developing innovative neurotech solutions. They are seeking a Scientist/Engineer to join their bioengineering group, responsible for demonstrating the application of injectable, wireless nano-implants to restore eyesight through various pre-clinical experiments.
Biotechnology
Responsibilities
Demonstrate the application of injectable, wireless nano-implants to restore eyesight without surgery
Conduct electrical neuromodulation using these devices in retinal explants
Characterize through multi-electrode array (MEA)/patch-clamp electrophysiology followed by in vivo tests in rodent models for efficacy and safety
Responsible for end-to-end execution of all pre-clinical experiments required to bring retinal prosthesis to IDE-enabling stage
Qualification
Required
PhD in neuroscience, vision science, neuro-engineering, biology, bioengineering, biomedical engineering or relevant field
Hands-on experience with small-animal ophthalmology and retinal prosthesis for electrical stimulation such as bionic eye, photovoltaic implant, wired implant, sub-retinal or epi-retinal implant, injectable neuro-prosthesis, nanoparticles etc
Hands-on experience with rodent models such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) (rd1, rd10, RCS, S334ter etc)
Hands-on experience with rodent (mouse/rats) ocular surgery such as retina isolation and injections such as intravitreal/suprachoroidal/sub-retinal/ subtenon injections
Hands-on experience with retinal electrophysiology (multi-electrode array (MEA) or patch clamping) ex vivo in isolated retina
Hands-on experience with in vivo electrophysiology such as measuring visual evoked potential and electroretinogram (ERG)
Hands-on experience with characterizing acuity and resolution through methods such as pattern visual-evoked-potential (VEP) grating-acuity assay, optokinetic/optomotor reflex (OKR) test
Hands-on experience with behavioral vision assays and tests such as pupillary light reflex, light/dark box, water-maze tests
Hands-on experience in preparing retinal flat-mounts & cryo-sections; performing histology, immunostaining and confocal microscopy
Preferred
Experience with data analysis, statistical modeling and programming skills such as MATLAB/Python/COMSOL
Experience in building optical equipment
Experience in operating fundus camera & optical coherence tomography (OCT)
Experience with optogenetics
