, Assistant State’s Attorney Cold Case Homicide Unit
The Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City is seeking a Cold Case Homicide Assistant State's Attorney to handle legal work related to cold case homicide cases. The role involves preparing and litigating cases, conducting legal research, and collaborating with various agencies to support victims and witnesses.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of law, including court procedures and legal research methods and sources
Skill in using a personal computer and commonly utilized business and legal software in the performance of duties
Ability to handle a high volume court docket involving a variety of complex cases effectively
Ability to interview victims and witnesses to gather information, research relevant case law and codes for applicability to varying legal issues, determine appropriate sentence recommendations and guidelines, and to develop strategies and theories for effective case prosecution
Ability to learn and employ new investigative methods in homicide investigations, to include attending relevant topical trainings
Ability to deliberately and creatively build evidence, both directly and circumstantially
Drafting and preparation of a variety of legal documents, including but not limited to briefs, motions and legal memoranda
Coordination with other City and State agencies that provide assistance, protection and services to victims and witnesses
Participation in Community Engagement Initiatives; and
Performance of related work as directed by the State’s Attorney
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the State of Maryland
Applicants must have tried at least ten homicide cases to verdict
Knowledge of the principles and practices of law, including court procedures and legal research methods and sources
Skill in using a personal computer and commonly utilized business and legal software in the performance of duties
Ability to handle a high volume court docket involving a variety of complex cases effectively
Ability to interview victims and witnesses to gather information, research relevant case law and codes for applicability to varying legal issues, determine appropriate sentence recommendations and guidelines, and to develop strategies and theories for effective case prosecution
Ability to learn and employ new investigative methods in homicide investigations, to include attending relevant topical trainings

The applicant is required to pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting
