Associate Program Director, Psychiatry Residency at FHCSD

The Associate Program Director, Psychiatry Residency will support the residency program through curriculum design, evaluation, and direct patient care, while also serving as a mentor and advisor to residents.

Responsibilities

Completes all required documentation accurately, timely and thoroughly in accordance with department standards and to comply with electronic medical record requirements, including medication reconciliation, finalizing notes, and clearing out personal pool
Provides administrative support to the Residency program through curriculum design and evaluation, planning, clinical supervision, special projects, and program development.  Participate in program evaluation and clinical competency committees.  Serve on residency program committees as assigned
Provides direct patient care in Residency clinic
Provides precepting and evaluation of the performance of residents
Teach residents in the Residency program, through a variety of mediums, including lectures, seminars, conferences, and direct patient care in residency clinic
Split time between educational, administrative, and clinical care
Participate in scheduled staff meetings, committees, quality improvement activities, and peer review as needed
Serve as a role model, mentor, and advisor to residents in the program.  Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct
Participate in the selection, orientation, and evaluation of residents during NRMP recruitment
Support the Program Director (PD) and core faculty in the implementation of policies and procedures consistent with institutional and program requirements
Assist with the incorporation and application of ACGME Milestones into evaluation tools
Participate in scholarship, preferably in collaboration with residents
Actively participate in faculty development initiatives
Serve as a course director in Residency program required and elective rotations, if needed
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), or specialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee
Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS)
Active DEA license
Graduate from an accredited school of medicine
Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of California if applicable
Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver's license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required. California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency
5 years of experience working in the field of psychiatry required
Minimum of 3 years faculty teaching experience with a psychiatry residency required
Ability to maintain good interpersonal interactions with clients and co-workers as a member of a multi-disciplinary community health team with a diverse multi-cultural population
Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups. Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with patients and family members who speak English as a second language
Knowledge of patient care activities, the clinic environment, and how the services and functions interact
Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques, including performance management and employee development
Must possess a demonstrated commitment to community psychiatry

Preferred

Academic leadership experience serving in assistant/associate or program director role preferred
Experience with underserved, low-income persons, and outpatient and inpatient psychiatry preferred
Participate in scholarship, preferably in collaboration with residents
Actively participate in faculty development initiatives
Serve as a course director in Residency program required and elective rotations, if needed
