Pharmacy Technologist - Infusion/Oncology (up to 19hrs/wk)

The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a Pharmacy Technologist for their Clinical Services Wing. The role involves assisting pharmacists in drug distribution, preparing medications, and maintaining pharmacy operations while adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Retrieves and delivers medication orders and supplies
Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standards
Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards
Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cartfill and Automated Drug Systems
Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages are noted
Performs quality assurance/improvement audits
Maintains a neat clean and organized work area
Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments
Assists pharmacists in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
Performs related duties as required

Registered Pharmacy TechnicianACPE approved IV certificationHospital/Acute Care ExperienceHome Infusion experienceEPICUSP 797/800 knowledgeEffective communication skillsProblem-solving skills

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
OR Registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
Effective communication skills
Demonstrates ability to prioritize and solve problems
Able to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending
Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs., and regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 lbs

Preferred

ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification
Hospital/Acute Care Experience
Home Infusion experience
Experience with EPIC
USP 797/800
