Responsibilities
Build and maintain scalable backend systems that process hundreds of millions of events, alerts and notifications weekly from security devices deployed around the world
Lead technical design discussions and make architectural decisions for new features across our event processing, alert rule management, and notification delivery services
Own complex systems end-to-end, from initial design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization
Drive the development of backend infrastructure integrated with AI capabilities
Mentor and support junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing
Contribute to Verkada's public API that customers use for integrations with their existing security and operations systems
Collaborate with product managers, engineering leaders, and teams across the organization to define and deliver high-impact products
Qualification
Required
Degree in Computer Science or similar field
5+ years of professional experience as a Back End Engineer with a track record of building and operating large-scale distributed systems, ideally at a rapidly growing start up or innovative company
Deep expertise in Go, Python, Java, or C++ with strong software engineering fundamentals
Proven experience designing and working with both relational (Postgres, MySQL) and non-relational databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch)
Track record of leading technical initiatives, making architectural decisions, and delivering complex systems from concept to production
Experience with event-driven architectures and message streaming platforms (Kafka, SQS)
Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Docker)
Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and elevate team technical standards
Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week
