They are seeking a Research Intern to study and benchmark data structures for blockchain storage, specifically targeting performance improvements in persistent storage solutions. The role involves understanding existing codebases, testing implementations, and potentially refactoring code for better efficiency.

Responsibilities

Study data structures for storing the MoveVM-based blockchain’s current and archival state on the database

Experiment and benchmark existing implementations such as Ethereum Merkle trees, Consensys bonsai trees, and the Erigon approach

Replace Merkle trees with Verkle trees and explore other data structure-level innovations

Understand the existing codebase and test it via mocks and drivers

Integrate and test the best-performing data structure and database with Supra Codebase

Refactor parts of the code when necessary

Required

Very good command over Rust programming

Knowledge and experience with Rust testing tools and testing methodologies

Very good with debugging

Preferred

Async programming/ tokio runtime in Rust

Familiarity with Key Store DB technologies like RocksDB

Knowledge of Ethereum and other popular blockchains

Familiarity with data structures amenable for parallel execution
