Director of Development – Major and Planned Gifts

The Director of Development - Major and Planned Gifts is responsible for building relationships with prospects and securing philanthropic support, while managing donor relationships and reporting for the Vice President of Advancement.

Responsibilities

Identify and cultivate new prospects, managing a donor portfolio to build a robust solicitation pipeline
Solicit annual, multi-year, and deferred philanthropic commitments
Track and document donor and prospect interactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Guide the development of prospect materials, including formulating cultivation plans/strategy and funding proposals
Meeting with and/or arranging meetings for key staff with current and prospective donors
Ensuring that current donors receive timely updates and reports, and are included in key organizational activities
Working with advancement and marketing / communications staff to develop informational materials for potential donors
Collaborate with advancement/college colleagues and volunteers to align donor interests with college priorities

Required

Strong written and verbal communications skills
Ability to initiate new relationships and further build existing relationships
Excellent interpersonal, conversational and telephone skill
Effective project management skills to document and structure constituent cultivation
Proficiency with video conferencing and webinar technology
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and take initiative
Ability to collaborate with others in building relationships and partnerships
Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the internal and external communities
Ability to strategize and conceptualize new ideas and be able to translate these ideas into specific action

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 5 years in fundraising, development, sales, communications, public relations, or higher education
