The successful candidate will lead a team in designing geotechnical solutions for transportation projects, manage project communications, and ensure quality control while mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

Direct staff in completing geotechnical engineering tasks for transportation projects, including slope stability analyses, Subsurface Exploration Planning Submissions, Foundation Recommendation Reports, Geotechnical Engineering Reports and Alternatives Analyses and other geotechnical related reports
Provide a team environment, mentorship, and training for junior level geotechnical staff
Maintain team building and project communication with both internal and external clients
Assist in developing statements of interest
Determine scope of work and prepare man-hour estimates for geotechnical engineering tasks
Provide quality control oversight for all aspects of the geotechnical engineering tasks
Coordinate with bridge structural designers
Communicate with clients, establish goals and objectives for project teams, and schedule and coordinate resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client
Involvement in professional societies is encouraged

Required

15 – 25 years of geotechnical engineering experience on PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), and/or design-build projects
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in groups
Experience in project management and budgeting
Preparing technical and cost proposals
Understanding QA/QC procedures
Possess PE in PA
Experience working on projects across the Commonwealth
BS in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering), MS or PhD degree preferable
Minimum 15 years of experience with PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike Commission
Experience in the use of PennDOT design specifications and AASHTO
Professional Engineering License
Proficiency using CADD (Microstation preferred)
Proficiency in MS Office software
Proficient in the use of LPile, GRLweap, DRIVEN, SLIDE and gINT
Experience with structure related foundation design for transportation projects including: Bridges, Retaining Walls, Culverts, Reinforced Soil Slopes, Temporary Shoring, Sign Structures, Contract Plans, Engineer's Estimates, Construction Specifications, Shop Drawing Review
Maintain positive employee relations and proactive project communication
Ability to monitor schedules and budgets
Strong technical writing skills required for reports
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required
Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record will be required
