Assistant Town Attorney

The Town of East Hampton is seeking an Assistant Town Attorney to join their Legal Team. This role involves providing legal counsel, drafting various legal documents, and representing the Town in litigation while contributing to local legislation that supports the community's needs.

Responsibilities

Drafting legislation, resolutions, contracts, agreements, leases, and licenses for the Town Attorney’s approval
Reviewing documents prepared by other agencies and affiliated parties, and interacting with various other agencies on a wide variety of matters
Representing the Town in litigation
Performing legal research on a variety of issues, including but not limited to municipal law, contracts, civil litigation, property and land use issue
Responding to FOIL requests and issues related to Open Meetings Law
Counseling a Board meeting and attendance at occasional night meetings may be required

Qualification

New York State Bar LicenseGovernmental ExperienceLegal ResearchDrafting LegislationLitigation Representation

Required

Possession of a New York State license to practice law before the Bar of the State of New York

Preferred

Governmental/municipal experience
