Responsibilities
Shepherd multi-million-dollar building-systems projects through the full life-cycle, from client discovery and conceptual design to field supervision and close-out
Perform detailed HVAC load calculations and system selections, creating design documents and BIM models in Revit and AutoCAD
Guide and mentor junior mechanical designers, assigning tasks, monitoring schedules, and managing project budgets
Interface with architects, contractors, and code officials to resolve technical issues, secure approvals, and ensure all work meets NYC Building Code, IMC, and IECC requirements
Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and pay applications, proactively flagging scope or budget variances
Champion process improvements - introducing digital workflows, adopting emerging sustainability best practices, and driving quality-assurance standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months
10+ years designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial or institutional facilities, with recent NYC project experience
Advanced proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and industry calculation/energy-modeling software
Proven success managing multiple concurrent projects and leading cross-functional engineering teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills - able to build trusted-advisor relationships with clients and stakeholders
