Deputy Fire Chief (Internal Candidates Only)

NEOGOV is seeking a Deputy Fire Chief for the Barrow County Emergency Services Department. This role is responsible for directing daily operations and emergency response activities, ensuring compliance with policies, managing budgets, and overseeing personnel training and evaluation.

Responsibilities

Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards
Monitors all emergency services functions, operations, and personnel
Implements divisional goals and objectives, work methods and practices, policies, and strategic goals and objectives for Community Risk Reduction
Works with the Fire Chief to develop the budget for the Fire/Rescue and EMS Division
Monitors departmental expenditures for compliance with approved budgetary funding
Provides oversight at major incidents ensuring the implementation of appropriate actions in accordance with established policies and procedures
Implements department-wide policies and procedures for all divisions
Develops and maintains working relationships with other county departments and agencies to coordinate delivery of services, sharing of information, and coordinate responses to emergencies
Gives presentations to the Board of Commissioners, elected and appointed officials, civic organizations, school groups and others in the absence of the Chief
Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel
Implements Automatic Aid/Mutual Aid agreements
Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information from citizens, elected officials, outside agencies, and others
Performs the duties of the Chief in his or her absence, as assigned; and
Performs other assigned duties

Required

Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field
Five (5) years of related work experience
Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience
Valid State of Georgia Driver's License
Must meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act
Knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal administration, including program planning, direction, coordination, and evaluation
Knowledge of effective and result-oriented management principles and practices
Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures
Knowledge of emergency services administration principles and practices
Knowledge of budget development and management principles
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
Skill in the effective communication of ideas through oral and written communications
Skill in the effective presentation of information to top management, community groups, task forces, committees, boards, and the public
Skill in short- and long-range strategic planning
Skill in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of personnel
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions
Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports
