Inverter Modeling and Hardware Testbed Experiments Student Engineer

Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is seeking a student intern for an R&D project focused on developing a hardware testbed with programmable inverters. The intern will support the team by developing inverter models, programming microcontrollers, and conducting laboratory experiments.

Responsibilities

Developing grid forming (GFM) and grid following (GFL) inverter models in electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation tools
Programming inverter microcontrollers
Conducting laboratory experiments on a hardware testbed

Qualification

Required

Master's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required

Preferred

2 years of PhD studies (preferred)
Electrical engineering Ph.D student with emphasis on power systems
Strong experience with inverter controls
Strong experience with microcontroller programming (preferably Texas Instruments C2000)
Strong experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably PSCAD and Simulink)
Strong programming skills (preferably Python and Matlab)
