Responsibilities

Perform structural analyses under supervision, typically for non-building and industrial structures
Design new structures and repairs of existing structures, especially for unique and extreme dynamic loads
Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analyses under supervision, using programs such as Abaqus and ANSYS
Develop and apply facility-specific design criteria within highly regulated industries
Assist in preparing proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication
Review work by technicians, draftsmen, and others assisting the project team
Conduct field inspections
Conduct engineering calculations using software such as MATLAB and Mathcad

Required

0 – 2 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics
A Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree
Education must have an emphasis on structural engineering and/or engineering mechanics (e.g., civil/structural engineering, mechanics of structures)
Familiarity with building design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC through education or experience
Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration within five years
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients
Proficiency with computer programming
Ability to travel and perform field inspections of structures under supervision
May require a valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report
