Director of Recreation and Wellness Programs
McNeese State University is seeking a Director of Recreation and Wellness Programs to provide leadership and oversight for the department. The role involves managing a team, developing wellness programs, and ensuring a holistic recreational experience for students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities
Lead a department consisting of full-time professional employees, graduate assistants, and student workers
Provide administrative leadership for all aspects of recreation and wellness programs, including but not limited to budgetary processes including development and management of an annual budget as well as development of financially viable programs
Employ, train and supervise a diverse staff of professionals and student workers
Conduct staff team building and professional development activities
Directly supervise support staff responsible for oversight of facility management and recreation programs including intramurals and e-sports
Lead the department’s efforts to promote student development and satisfaction through evaluation of programs and services
Establish and manage a semester schedule of wellness programs for students, faculty, and staff including physical activities, exercise classes, seminars, and expo-style events
Develop a schedule of wellness programs for students, faculty, and staff with a frequency and capacity that is adequate for the campus community
Serve as a liaison between the University and community wellness partners
Develop and coordinate marketing/promotion of the recreation complex and wellness programs
Recruit and develop professional and student staff including development of job descriptions and performance evaluations ensuring compliance with university and legal requirements
Represent the recreation complex with internal and external audiences including admissions, alumni, campus police, and local media as needed
Internal evaluation and modification of the Recreation Complex policies and procedures
Partner with facilities and custodial services to provide a safe and clean facility
Gather and review student participation and satisfaction using reports, surveys, and external audits
Lead the complex’s efforts to promote student development and satisfaction through evaluation of programs and services
Develop, monitor and implement best practices in student development and effective quality control standards for the selection of exercise equipment, technology platforms, educational and student services, student achievement and satisfaction and professional development for the complex’s professional and student staff
Engage in evaluation and assessment practices to ensure quality outcomes and accountability
Develop and conduct surveys to assess member satisfaction with the facility and its services
Coordinate and communicate frequent updates to the website and social media
Facilitate social media programming, services and facility updates are communicated
Oversee scheduling and reservations for all rec complex venues
Coordinate travel arrangements for students competing in intramural sports beyond the campus level
Generate financial and participation reports as needed or requested
Build relationships with external constituents to generate more usage of the facility for camps and other special events to increase supplemental revenue
Communicate and network with counterpart professionals at peer institutions to remain abreast of best practices and recent trends for better operation of the department
Participate in both local and non-local professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge relative to the position
Serve as a member of university committees, steering groups, and advisory councils as assigned
Maintain 24/7 urgent response capability, particular during academic semesters
Provide support and partnership to other areas within the Division of Student Affairs
Perform other job-related duties as required and assigned by the direct or next-level supervision
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
At least three years of professional experience in management, recreational sports, physical wellness, facility management, student development, student life or similar role
Supervision experience of persons 21 years of age or older
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Previous experience coordinating programs and activities for small and large groups
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends with prior notice
Experience working in eclectic settings
Understanding of using computer software needed to complete job duties such as the Microsoft Office 365, Banner (or other) student information system and a campus portal platform
Significant budget management experience
Evidence of an energetic, student-centered approach to completion of work duties and program development
Preferred
Master's Degree or greater from an accredited institution in health and human performance, recreation, physical wellness, physical education, student services, higher education or closely related field
Seven years or more of related experience
Membership experience in organization or association relative to higher education, recreational sports, or physical wellness
Experience in allocating and managing budgets
Experience in policy development, enforcement, and compliance monitoring in an educational setting
Familiarity with relevant legal issues at the local, state, and federal level
Ability to solve problems and develop creative solutions when barriers are present
Experience formulating assessment and generating data/action reports based on findings
