Responsibilities

Assemble and sterilize all instruments, instrument trays, utensils, and linen packs
Perform distribution functions as it relates to case carts and sterile instrumentation
Must be able to perform all Sterile Processing functions
Use established departmental and regulatory standards, principles, and procedures for aseptic technique
Process and assemble instrument trays, respiratory/anesthesia equipment, linen, and utensils accurately and promptly
Use established schedule to operate steam and plasma sterilizer
Load, unload and move sterilizer carts
Run, verify and record necessary tests on all steamed and plasma equipment used in the department
Ensure that Bowie-Dick removal test is run on pre-vacuum steam sterilizer each morning and after repairs
Report all malfunctions to the biomedical department, department supervisor, and the O.R. supervisor
Precept and verify competency and skill development of staff as appropriate providing meaningful feedback to Training and Staff Development Coordinator and Clinical Operations Supervisor or Manager
Perform spot checks of paperwork, labeling, and biological reads
Inspect packages to ensure all external indicators, filters, and/or labels are securely affixed to items, returns non-satisfactory products to the instrument room
Perform (HLD) High level disinfection with 100% accuracy
Utilize patient-specific pick lists to accurately gather surgical instruments and disposable supplies requested by the attending surgeon or another Peri-Operative representative
Document case cart build process in SPM, continuously updating the record as items are fulfilled to maintain the integrity of the needs list
Respond to OR requests and participate in OR huddles as needed
Communicate unmet surgical supply requests to leadership for resolution assistance
Perform scheduled and cyclic physical inventory of supplies and instruments within the department

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to perform all Sterile Processing functions
Rotating weekend and on-call requirements
Strict dress code and professional appearance including wearing surgical scrubs
Uses established departmental and regulatory standards, principles, and procedures for aseptic technique
Processes and assembles instrument trays, respiratory/anesthesia equipment, linen, and utensils accurately and promptly
Uses established schedule to operate steam and plasma sterilizer
Loads, unloads, and moves sterilizer carts
Runs, verifies, and records necessary tests on all steamed and plasma equipment used in the department

Preferred

Completion of a Central Sterile Processing program through an accredited institution
Two years of experience as a sterile processing technician
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CBSPD certification preferred
