Sr Manufacturing Systems Engineer

AeroShield Materials is a collaborative startup focused on developing innovative materials for sustainable building insulation. They are seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Systems Engineer to design and implement a scalable aerogel composite production line, collaborating with engineers to integrate manufacturing processes and optimize production systems.

ConsumerIndustrialIndustrial Manufacturing

Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers and vendors to assist in the design and integration of the entire aerogel composite production line
Architect the material flow and system integration for all composite manufacturing steps
Co-develop robust, scalable solutions for handling delicate materials, specifically large-format glass and thin aerogel sheets
Utilize 3D CAD software (Fusion 360 preferred) to create detailed designs for custom fixtures, ergonomic workstations, and electromechanical systems
Work hands-on in the lab and machine shop to build, fabricate, and assemble prototypes and production systems
Lead the installation, testing, and debugging phases for the systems and subsystems you help design
Apply analytical methods, such as Design of Experiments (DOE), to optimize processes and validate the performance of new equipment
Coordinate with external vendors for component sourcing and fabrication, managing timelines and costs for delegated projects
Assist in drafting relevant technical documentation, including assembly procedures, user manuals, and maintenance guides

Required

A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field
A minimum of 7 years of experience in a manufacturing or process engineering role, with a proven track record of bringing new systems from concept to production
Demonstrated expertise in designing, building, and commissioning integrated manufacturing systems, not just discrete pieces of equipment
High proficiency in 3D CAD for designing fixtures and machines; experience with Autodesk Fusion 360 is strongly preferred
Applied knowledge of analytical methods such as Design of Experiments (DOE) to solve problems and validate process improvements
A strong background in design-build projects with significant hands-on experience fabricating, assembling, and testing the systems you design
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience coordinating with external vendors and collaborating closely within a multi-disciplinary engineering team
A demonstrated potential for leadership, with a desire to formally mentor junior engineers and an interest in growing into roles with greater influence and responsibility

Preferred

Familiarity with industrial automation, controls (PLCs), and robotics in a manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience with basic electrical wiring, pneumatics, and piping for system assembly and testing
Direct experience handling highly fragile or brittle materials (e.g., glass, ceramics, porous films, aerogels)
Familiarity with processes requiring controlled environments, such as humidity control or handling of solvent-based materials
Hands-on machine shop skills (mill, lathe, etc.) for rapid prototyping
Experience with industrial automation, PLCs, and robotics in a manufacturing setting
Knowledge of programming languages like Python for data analysis
