Clinical Psychologist-Bariatric Surgery Program

Responsibilities

Presurgical assessment and follow up with patients to establish needed behavior change pre-operatively
Intervention for post-surgery complications, including behavioral and psychological issues
Consultation to interdisciplinary team regarding psychological aspects of care
There may be opportunity for clinical programming development and evaluation
Supervision of psychology residents in our CPA-accredited residency training program; teaching of medical students and other health profession learners; continuing professional education of health professionals

Qualification

Required

Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited training program, and completion of a CPA or APA-accredited internship/residency
Registered or eligible for registration as a Psychologist (C.Psych.) with the Psychological Association of Manitoba www.cpmb.ca
Education, training and experience in behavior change and common mental health presentations, including eating disorders, substance misuse, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Training and experience in the treatment of obesity is an asset
Experience in providing consultation to interdisciplinary teams in medicine/health psychology and mental health
Education, training and experience in evidence-based psychological approaches (e.g., motivational interviewing) for behaviour change and treatments for a range of common mental health conditions, in individual and group treatment delivery
Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, oral and written communication, and inter-professional teamwork skills
Satisfactory results of pre-employment criminal record, vulnerable person and child and adult abuse registry checks are required

Preferred

Training, experience and/or research background/interests in diverse cultures would be an asset
