Specialized Engineer III- Welding (3554)

The Specialized Welding Engineer III will support repair technology development efforts by leading test programs, developing novel repair techniques, and collaborating with engineers to evaluate repair technologies.

Responsibilities
Plan, follow, and execute work efforts
Conceive and produce technical instructions and procedures
Track procurement actions / budget performance
Write technical submittals and recommendations
Contribute to the development of novel repair techniques
Draft, place, follow and report subcontracted repair method development/demonstration contracts
Team with other engineers to identify, research, test, and evaluate metallic and non-metallic repair technologies
Leverage existing welding, machining, and other industrial processes
Focus on project planning, assignment of work, coordination of resources, and reporting of project performance within NNL's broader repair technology development community
Qualification
Required
BS Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
MS Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
Experience making technical presentations
Ability to lead/execute laboratory operations in a productive, timely, and compliant manner
Ability to help develop, test, evaluate, and eventually qualify repair procedures in the laboratory
Consult with various fabrication vendors and shipyards
Experience with gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, epoxies/composites, and mechanical/machining processes
Ability to develop and interpret specifications, drawings, and engineering standards
Ability to plan and execute work programs
Design experiments
Analyze experimental results
Prepare technical reports
US citizenship
Preferred
Automated/mechanized gas tungsten arc welding experience
Demonstrated acumen in executing laboratory work
Familiarity with inspection methods
