Designer - Electrical Engineering (Early & Mid-Career)

General Dynamics is seeking an Electrical Designer to support the development and integration of shipboard electrical systems. The successful candidate will create detailed electrical models and diagrams while collaborating closely with engineers to ensure accurate documentation for various systems aboard vessels.

Responsibilities

Detailed experience in ship design, to include 3D model development, functional engineering products, estimating, planning, procurement, and production processes
Able to recommend valuable improvements to department processes
Anticipates roadblocks and mitigates their impact based on experience
Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems or technical issues within assigned work scope
Serves as focal point for discussing the organization’s agreed technical position with external SMEs and production management
Ability to conduct presentations
Coordinates and facilitates working groups, including documenting discussions, decisions, and outcomes
Mentors the group to advance overall knowledge in the field and other related disciplines
Proactively distributes knowledge in areas of expertise
Leads team in executing specific projects
Understands how requirements connect to each other and order of precedence
Assumes additional responsibilities or performs varying work as work situations dictate
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Required

Bachelors of Science or Associates degree in CAD and 6-10 years of experience. 4 years of shipbuilding experience can substitute for education
Demonstrated expertise within discipline, with specialized knowledge of process within discipline
Strong knowledge of PC and CAD applications
Proficiency with CAD tools (such as AVEVA, Ship Constructor, SolidWorks, NX, 3D AutoCAD or Revit)
Knowledge of marine electrical systems
Familiarity with regulatory standards (ABS, IEEE, IEC)
Detailed experience in ship design, to include 3D model development, functional engineering products, estimating, planning, procurement, and production processes
Ability to conduct presentations
