Responsibilities

Works under direct clinical supervision of the sleep medicine physician to prepare sleep studies, support patients with positive airway pressure related issues, and conduct polysomnogram scoring
Oversees home sleep study logistics. Sets up and scores home sleep testing devices
Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs
Determines final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols
Explains procedures and orients the patient for sleep testing
Selects appropriate equipment and calibrates for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary; applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards
Performs data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies, corrects and documents artifacts. Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results
Performs patient education and instruction appropriate for sleep testing
Measure and accurately apply electrodes in a timely manner, according to the 10-20 international system. Ensure that electrode impedance meets laboratory standards
Gather pertinent information from patient, patient’s record, nurses, physicians, and family members; Document skull defects and alterations of electrode placement
Perform routine EEG procedures in the lab
Introduce patients to routine, neurophysiologic testing situations and prepare patient for the testing procedure, addressing questions and concerns and attending to patient’s comfort and safety during the procedures
Maintain competency of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment including electrodes
Keep equipment clean and in proper working order. Ensure the scheduled maintenance of equipment is performed. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and repair them or report to supervisor promptly

Required

One (1) plus years' experience in PSG (Polysomnographic Technologist) and home sleep study scoring
High School Diploma/GED
EEG (Electroencephalogram Technologist) Certification by ABRET
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (PSG) CA License by BRPT and/or Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by Respiratory Care Board of California
