Responsibilities

Rotate across Mayo Clinic sites in Minnesota and Wisconsin as determined by patient care needs
Travel on a routine basis to various locations
Support OR environments to ensure they are safe, equipment functions properly, and procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety
Maintain sterile environments, gown and glove surgeons and assistants, sterile drape patients, and assist with surgeries
Handle all instruments, scrubs, sutures, implants, etc
Count all instruments and supplies before, during, and after procedures
Prepare sterile table for each procedure assuring required instruments are available to the physicians including suture, blades, cautery, suction, implants, medication and solutions
Assist in draping the surgical field to ensure correct exposure of operative site with respect to each patient's right to privacy, dignity, safety and comfort
Provide a quiet environment for the surgical patients
Assist the surgeon when she/he does not have an assistant
Correctly identify items on back table
Apply basic and current knowledge of surgical instruments for a proficient performance of assigned functions

Surgical Technologist CertificationBasic Life Support (BLS)Surgical tech experienceAccredited Surgical Tech ProgramBasic computer knowledge

Required

Graduate from an accredited Surgical Tech Program required
Must have at least 1 year of surgical tech experience
Expected to travel across multiple Mayo Clinic sites
Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions
Basic computer knowledge and skills required
Must be in good standing related to performance
If a current Mayo Clinic employee, must have been in current position for one year prior to applying
Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider) or Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required within 18 months of hire
Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program
Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter
Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency
Current BLS certification required upon hire
Certification through NBSTSA required within one year of hire date

Traveler or float pool experience preferred
