Senior Underwriter

Responsibilities

Serve in a lead capacity by managing workflows, providing direction, and assisting with staff training and development
Evaluate new applications, endorsements and loss information to determine risk eligibility
Apply underwriting guidelines, pricing models and company strategy to ensure profitable and sustainable risk selection
Exercise sound judgment within delegated authority when making decisions regarding risk acceptance and pricing
Assess and price risks based on exposure, loss history and prevailing market conditions
Prepare and revise accurate, comprehensive quotes for agent consideration
Identify and recommend pricing, or coverage adjustments, to enhance program competitiveness and profitability
Review monthly renewals for potential pricing adjustments or non-renewal recommendations
Maintain clear and professional communication with agents regarding renewals, coverage modifications and underwriting decisions
Partner with Claims, Loss Control, Marketing and other departments to service accounts, address issues and support loss mitigation efforts
Contribute to the refinement of underwriting guidelines, workflow improvements and system enhancements
Support the adoption and optimization of underwriting technology tools to drive efficiency and performance
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Insurance or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Four or more years of multi-line property and casualty underwriting experience
Knowledge of the construction industry with specialized expertise in worker's compensation
Ability to make sound underwriting decisions, manage complex accounts and maintain profitability
Skill in interpersonal interactions with the ability to collaborate across teams and build strong agent relationships
Skill in analysis, negotiation and problem solving
Skill in time management and prioritization with high attention to detail
Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality and professional integrity
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and function specific software applications
