Responsibilities

Responsible for the Accreditation of the Sentinel Node Program through the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
Prepares and implements quality control to include calculation, identification, and documentation, proper disposal, storage, and safe handling of Radiopharmaceutical sources in compliance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
Responsible for Annual Mammography Quality Standard Act (MQSA) inspections and re-certifications; and compliance with American College Radiology (ACR) recertification and reaccreditation process
Maintains accurate patient records in accordance with MQSA, ACR, and NRC regulations. Reporting should comply with all the guidelines for communicating Diagnostic Imaging Findings, and maintain consistency with the MQSA’s Final Rule
Coordinates tasks and document Quality Control procedures and Quality Assurance programs with procedure manuals. Logs must be maintained and be in compliance with the MQSA regulations
Maintains Procedure Manuals regarding Policies and Procedures related to Quality, Patient education, Infection control, Safety, and Patient follow up. Policies and procedures are developed and implemented in accordance with all three governing Regulatory boards
Monitors the Sentinel Lymph Node Program to ensure instrumentation, credibility, and reliability, are consistent with the ALARA concept and the NRC’s regulations
Must supervise record book keeping to maintain the MQSA standards, and for review by the Chief Radiologist and the Medical Physicists
Implements As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA)Supervise procedural changes and improvements with staff
Assist the Radiologist with the procedure of Lymphoscintigraphy
Ensures Medical Physicists Survey, Medical Audit, equipment evaluation is maintained optimally
Coordinates all inspections, sitting with the Inspectors, as the programs are inspected for compliance required for Accreditation and Licensure, by the three governing bodies of the ACR, MQSA, NRC
Mammography Supervisor functions as the Breast Care Coordinator for the Medical Imaging Department
Manages patient appointments and referrals for Breast Imaging studies including: Breast Biopsy procedures; Ultrasound guided biopsies, Stereotactic breast biopsy, Localization procedures and Sentinel Lymph Node Injections exams
Scheduling appropriate appointments in Imaging for additional Imaging studies, working closely with Surgery clinic case managers
Manages the coordination of inter-facility, as well referrals from outside the Anchorage Service Unit. Acts as the liaison between multi-specialty clinics for the referral process
Administers Annual Performance Evaluations of all Mammography personnel
Approves leave for personnel, coordinates replacements for leave time taken by regular staff
Supervises the daily operation of the Mammography department
Ensures the Mammography department consistently produces high quality mammographic exams and procedures to aid in medical diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease
Develops goals and priorities in conjunction with employees, and assigns tasks and projects. Develops staff skills and training plans. Counsels, trains, and coaches subordinate staff, implements corrective actions
Meets with commercial representatives regrading new equipment, software upgrades, improvement in Imaging capabilities. New equipment available, makes recommendations to the Director on the purchase, and contract obligations by vendor
Supervises student training for Mammography and signs off on appropriate test required by governing entities for advanced licensure
Works closely with Bio-Medical Department to ensure the proper maintenance and optimal functions of all mammography equipment
Maintain schedule flow and ensuring proper referrals, scheduling processes, and accurate communication between the ordering Providers, Surgical clinics, and all personnel
Liaison between multi-specialty clinic for any breast imaging related recommendations
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or related field from an AMA approved Medical Radiography Program
Non-supervisory – Five (5) years mammography experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience
Supervisory – Two (2) years lead or supervisory experience
Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in good standing
Must be registered in Mammography (ARRT) (R) (M); The ARRT annually registers the certificates of individuals who meet the following three criteria; agreeing to comply with the ARRT Rules and Regulations, continuing to comply with the ARRT Standards of Ethics, and meeting the Continuing Education Requirements for Renewal of Registration
Current Basic Life Support card required

Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Radiology or similar health care related field
