Assistant General Counsel

They are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Assistant General Counsel to provide vital legal support across various aspects of their real estate operations.

Responsibilities

Prepare, negotiate and oversee outside counsel in connection with the acquisition, financing, disposition and leasing of real property, construction contracts, and vendor agreements
Advise and prepare ancillary documents related to legal matters involving land acquisitions, entitlements, zoning, and permitting
Prepare and coordinate execution of corporate agreements, employment disputes and related items
Identify legal risks and provide strategic advice to mitigate them
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations applicable to real estate development and investment activities
Oversee outside counsel for litigation matters, including, but not limited to, contract disputes, tenant issues, and insurance claims
Work directly with the General Counsel, outside counsels, and internal stakeholders, including executives, project managers, and finance teams, to align legal strategies with business objectives

Required

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Licensed attorney in good standing
6+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in real estate law, finance law, or a related field
Proven experience with transactional work, including drafting and negotiating lending contracts
Strong understanding of law and regulations
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

Experience working in-house for a real estate development firm or in a law firm specializing in real estate financing
Familiarity with construction law and public-private partnerships
Strong business acumen and the ability to balance legal risks with business needs
