Director/VP of Engineering (Browser Extensions)
Staffing Science is a large US based e-commerce company seeking a VP or Director of Software Engineering with deep expertise in building Chrome browser extensions for e-commerce. The role involves leading a team to develop and optimize browser extension tools that enhance the online shopping experience and drive e-commerce conversions.
Responsibilities
Lead and scale a team of engineers focused on Chrome Extensions that drive e-commerce conversions
Architect, develop, and optimize browser extension experiences that integrate with shopping carts, coupon databases, and price comparison engines
Stay ahead of Chrome Web Store policies, Manifest V3 updates, and browser security best practices to ensure compliance and optimal performance
Oversee the integration of AI/ML-driven deal-finding algorithms and personalization techniques
Collaborate with Product, UX, and Growth teams to optimize user acquisition and retention
Ensure robust security, data privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA), and fraud prevention strategies
Evaluate emerging technologies, browser APIs, and third-party integrations to enhance user experience
Lead the hiring, mentorship, and professional development of the engineering team
Qualification
Required
10+ years of software engineering experience
at least 5+ years leading teams in the browser extension space
Proven experience building and scaling high-traffic Chrome extensions (especially in e-commerce, fintech, or couponing)
Deep expertise with JavaScript/TypeScript, WebExtensions APIs, and Chrome Manifest V3
Strong knowledge of browser security, web scraping, and anti-fraud mechanisms
Experience integrating with e-commerce APIs (Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, etc.)
Understanding of performance optimization for real-time checkout experiences
Hands-on leadership style with the ability to guide architectural decisions and code reviews

Experience working in fast-paced startups or growth-stage e-commerce companies
