Orthopedic Technologist

Baptist Health is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to nearly 60 percent of the residents in Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore counties. The Orthopedic Technologist shall provide technical support in the delivery of standard orthopedic care and assist in preparing for examinations and procedures.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support to Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners in the delivery of standard orthopedic care
Assist in preparing rooms and patients for orthopedic examinations and procedures
Apply and remove common orthopedic devices and appliances
Assist in routine procedures
Perform all work under the supervision of the Physician or appropriate licensed practitioner
May have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role

Required

High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of an Orthopaedic Technician training and certification program required
Minimum of one year experience in an Orthopaedic clinic required
National Board of Orthopaedic Technologist Certification (NBOTC) or ASOP Registered Orthopaedic Technologist (ROT) required
BLS required
If not certified at hire, NBOTC or ASOP must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire
Must be self-directed/self-motivated
Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure
Must be able to work independently
Must be able to recognize the rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality
Must be able to convey empathy and compassion to those experiencing pain, physical or emotional distress and/or grief
Must be able to relate to others in a manner which creates a sense of teamwork and cooperation
Must be able to communicate effectively with people from every socioeconomic, cultural and educational background
Must be able to exhibit flexibility and cope effectively in an ever-changing, fast-paced healthcare environment
Must be able to perform effectively when confronted in critical situations
Must be able to demonstrate the quality work ethic of doing the right thing the right way
Must be able to maintain a customer focus and strive to satisfy the customer's perceived needs

Experience with DME and casting all extremities
