Responsibilities

Scrubbing or first assisting on surgical procedures in all specialties performed in the area of Surgical Services
Practicing an expanded role of the Scrub Technician under the supervision and direction of the RN - First Assist and/or the operating Surgeon
Providing quality patient care in a prompt and professional manner
Setting up assigned cases and maintaining a sterile field
Counting appropriate items with circulating nurse used during surgical cases
Understanding the principles of aseptic technique and sterilization
Applying knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures
Performing care of instruments, supplies, sutures, needles and basic equipment, as well as stocking, cleaning, inventory, etc
Communicating patient information to the Surgeon
Adhering to Baptist Health policies and procedures pertaining to duties and fulfilling verbal and written instructions
Adhering to all OSHA guidelines, safety and infection control policies
Scheduling all surgical and endoscopy cases for the Physician Practice if applicable

Qualification

Surgical experienceFirst Assist certificationBLS certificationAseptic techniqueInterpersonal skillsCommunication skills

Required

High school diploma or equivalent required
At least 1 year of surgical experience as a Scrub Tech
Successful completion of accredited First Assist course
BLS required
Understanding of the principles of aseptic technique and sterilization
Ability to apply knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures
Ability to communicate appropriately, verbal or written
