Analyst I: ICP-MS

McKinney Specialty Labs is an innovative scientific organization specializing in testing nicotine and aerosolized products. They are seeking a Metals Analyst I to perform essential laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, instrument maintenance, and compliance with quality assurance programs.

Research

Responsibilities

Preparation of tobacco, cigar(ette), eliquid, or aerosol samples for analysis
Preparation of reagents for lab use and/or shipment
Preparation of data summaries for inclusion in client reports
Maintaining clean laboratory areas
Instrument calibration and validation
Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
Maintaining organized records of sample preparation and analysis, equipment maintenance and data collected off site
Maintain consumables and parts for instruments
Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
Communicating relevant updates to applicable people in a timely manner
Ability to work on multiple batches with only minimal instruction from their supervisor
Performing other duties and responsibilities as prescribed by the Group Leader
Compliance with McKinney Specialty Labs Quality Assurance Program and other policies
Compliance with McKinney Specialty Labs Health and Safety Plan
Comfortable working with chemicals, glassware, and tobacco/nicotine products
Ability to remain flexible and handle changing priorities
Position requires attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and a desire to worth both as part of a team and independently

Required

BA / BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, related field, or equivalent training
Minimum 1 year of ICP experience
Strong instrument maintenance and troubleshooting skills
Experience with MassHunter
With minimum supervision, they must be able to routinely meet QA/QC requirements for the assays they perform
Must be able to describe the operation of the instrument or the chemistry involved in the assays they perform
Knowledge of analytical methods, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety
Good organization and communication skills
Must be flexible in work schedule (including Saturday) and able to work overtime

Preferred

Experience with Empower, ChemStation or Chromeleon software
Knowledge of ISO17025
Documentation, timeliness, and throughput that meet the standard of the laboratory
