DB2 Database Administrator (z/OS)
Apt is seeking a seasoned DB2 Database Administrator who is passionate about data integrity and system performance. The role involves designing, building, and managing high-performance DB2 databases in z/OS environments, while also mentoring junior team members and optimizing system performance.

Responsibilities
Design, build, and manage high-performance DB2 databases in z/OS environments
Optimize performance at the system level—tuning, troubleshooting, and tweaking until it hums
Define standards for storage, access, security, and maintenance across all database systems
Support and automate backups, recovery, and disaster recovery processes
Collaborate with IT teams to evaluate tools, troubleshoot issues, and roll out improvements
Mentor and guide junior team members—your expertise will help others grow
Stay ahead of trends—evaluate new tech and continuously improve our database landscape
Rotate in on 24/7 on-call support (shared schedule)
Qualification
Required
5+ years of hands-on experience in DB2 database administration, especially on z/OS
Strong SQL programming and system design chops
Comfortable working with Oracle, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL, and related tools
Solid grasp of Linux, Windows Server, networking, storage, and security
Experience with performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery setups
Proven ability to work independently and be a strong team player
Excellent communication skills—you can explain complex issues clearly
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship)
This role requires participation in a rotating on-call schedule (24/7 coverage)
Preferred
Experience leading or mentoring DBA teams
Building or customizing internal database tools
Passion for automation, documentation, and continuous improvement
