Tourism & Marketing Manager

NEOGOV is a part of the City of Athens, and they are seeking a Tourism & Marketing Manager to plan, organize, and coordinate tourism activities and initiatives. Responsibilities

Collaboratively creates, develops, plans, and implements innovative strategies to promote tourism through workplan goals and objectives
Monitors and analyze tourism trends, visitor data, and economic impact to guide program decisions and provide reports to City leadership. Reports may include presentations of information in public meetings
Coordinates with the Assistant City Manager on the allocation and use of Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funds in compliance with State law and City policy including but not limited to developing annual budget requests, establishing cost effective programs, planning, and maintaining organized records
Works with the Assistant City Manager to prepare and submit required HOT reports
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks while managing multiple projects with attention to detail and timeliness
Partners with public and private sector organizations to facilitate the promotion of tourism through the management of a cooperative advertising program with the goal of improving the quality and excitement of events to attract tourists to the City
Cultivates strategic partnerships with hotels, restaurants, attractions, and other tourism-related businesses to support collaborative promotions and campaigns
In coordination with City staff executes and manages City sponsored events in accordance with the developed workplan and budget. This position is the point of contact for City events
Performs other managerial and technical duties as assigned

Required

Must be a citizen of the United States or eligible to work in the United States
Must have a valid class C driver's license issued by the State of Texas
A high school diploma or GED is required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in marketing, tourism, communications, public relations, business, or a related field
Minimum of five (5) years' experience in marketing, tourism industry, or closely related field. Two (2) years of the required experience must have been in a lead capacity or any combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of Tax Code 351 – Hotel Occupancy Tax Revenue usage
Knowledge of travel and tourism, marketing principles and advertising mediums, techniques and methods of media/public relations communications, and related policies and procedures
Knowledge of the geographical layout of the City, including all tourist attractions
Knowledge of popular social media platforms, the appropriate use of platforms and ability to create content on said platforms
Knowledge of event planning processes and ability to coordinate/manage City events
Communication skills including not only concise and engaging written content, but also the ability to clearly communicate ideas verbally and exercise strong listening skills
Skilled in the use of personal computers and common software including Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other publishing software packages

Preferred

Certified Tourism Executive (CTE), Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME), or similar credential is preferred
