Idaho Falls Power - Generation Engineer
The City of Idaho Falls Power is currently hiring a Generation Engineer to focus on hydro projects within the generation division. The role involves performing engineering duties, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to maintain safe and efficient operations of power plants and dams.

Responsibilities
Perform a variety of duties related to planning, organizing, inspection, and coordinating the safe, effective and efficient operation of power plants, dams, and reservoirs as required to ensure compliance with FERC licensing regulations and best utility practices
Work collaboratively with other departments, the general public, and regulatory agencies
Provide engineering judgement to the Generation staff regarding the hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, cooling systems, and other mechanical systems associated with the Hydroelectric Projects
Write and revise the annual Dam Safety Surveillance Monitoring Plans and Reports
Revise, as needed, the Owner’s Dam Safety Program, Emergency Action Plan (EAP), and Supplemental Technical Information Document
Maintain records and analyze readings and measurements taken from dam safety instrumentation
Prepare engineering designs, specifications, costs and quantity estimates of projects related to Idaho Falls Power’s Hydroelectric projects
Inform the Chief Dam Safety Engineer of conditions which potentially affect dam safety
Assist in conducting the EAP annual test and 5-year tabletop and functional exercises
Perform scoping, bidding, project management, and document retention for consulting engineers performing FERC required design, studies, reports, and dam safety inspections
Prepare engineering designs, specifications, costs and quantity estimates of projects related to civil and mechanical engineering projects
Review and provide comment on mechanical and civil site designs of internal and consultant prepared projects
Prepare bidding documents and manage the bidding process
Perform project management of projects
Perform document retention related to projects
Provide Engineering oversight to other staff as needed on project design as needed
Provides budget items to the Chief Dam Safety Engineer
Perform other related duties
Coordinates with the Generation Superintendent-Chief Dam Safety Engineer in communicating with various system regulators, including FERC, supervises compliance activities to resolve issues impacting FERC licensing and various regulatory requirements; compiles data and prepares historical reports as needed to satisfy quarterly FERC reporting requirements
Works safely in accordance with all policies, procedures and utility best practices
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited university or college with a degree in engineering, preference given to Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering, or related field of study
Ability to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure in the State of Idaho within six (6) months for Senior Engineer or within four (4) years for Junior Engineer
Senior Engineer: four (4) years of experience related to the above duties
Junior Engineer: six (6) months of internship experience related to the above duties
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, reading of as-built drawings, technical writing, project planning, development, data acquisition and analysis, interpersonal communication skills
Working knowledge of structural, material science, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, geotechnical, hydrologic and hydraulic engineering, HEC-RAS, project management
Skill in the art of diplomacy, negotiation, and creative problem solving
Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and effectively communicate solutions
Ability to organize and track multiple projects
Ability to develop effective working relationships with Supervisor, fellow employees, and the public
Ability to operate radio communication equipment
Ability to operate computers including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing
Must possess a valid Idaho Driver's License
Preferred
Professional Engineering Licensure in the State of Idaho
